anyone ever use this?

  1. hey, I'm thinking about getting a MXR M-80 Direct Box w/ distortion. So anyone use it? does it sound good? just tell me what u think about it (i dont want to waste $135...)

    I had one for a few months, then sold it. Its a very solidly built unit, nice tone shaping tool, if you need that. The distortion is "fuzzy" sounding, if that's what you're looking for. Its not a gentle overdrive-type sound. It ADDS the distortion on top of your base tone, so that the low end is unnaffected - this works well, BUT it sounds like the distortion is sitting "on top" of your sound, as opposed to being intertwined with your sound.

    This unit will do wonders to a small or cheaper amp, but with my Eden rig it was pretty redundant, thus why I sold it. IMO its every bit as good as a Sansamp BDDI, just a different flavor.
