Anyone from Lake Tyler area, in Texas? (I'm curious about a contest I saw on HG-TV)

I was watching something on HG tv the other day and, as they do every year, the advertised a house they are giving away. Looks like a great house on the lake. I was wondering though, is it near a power plant or something? Is there a reason why whomever wins would not want to move in? Economic? Bordered by a maximum security prison? Lake Tyler is really Crystal Lake? I wonder what the taxes would be like on winning something like that.

I think you usually have to pay around 50% on contest winnings. You will not be charged by the state of texas though as we have no income tax.

I don't know what property taxes are like in Tyler. It's not a bad place as a city. Not too far from Dallas. My wife did a month rotation at a hospital there in her 4th year of med school and we considered moving there. There's a lot of old money there and every year they have this big rose festival and parade where the debutantes compete to be the Rose Queen and waste a bunch of money on making a 10,000 dollar dress. Medium-small town with a small town feel.

Stubi19 is probably the TBer that lives closest to Tyler. At least I haven't noticed anyone else that lives in that area here.

My wife watches that show "House Hunter". I was in the room, eating smokehouse almonds.

I bought my truck from an old family friend that lives in Tyler. My preacher lives over that way. My aunt and her family lived on a lake over there, but I couldn't say what lake...

I think I've been in Tyler twice in the past year

The excessive information that you were eating smokehouse almonds indicates a preconceived, well thought-out alibi. Nice try.

His wife probably wasn't even there!

    ;)

  13. If you win this house: be warned. I spent a week during July in Tyler once. 108 degrees.

There was an article in my local paper about this house a week or so ago. It said whoever wins it will probably have to sell it to pay the taxes, but they can build their own, less impressive house with the remaining money from the sale. Taxes on this house are estimated to be around $600,000 for winning and $ 30,000 a year property tax.

    ouch
