Anyone know what this is?

I bought this bass about 5 years ago in Miami. I own/have owned almost 100 Jazz Basses over the years so while I was not sure what this was, I knew it was a quality instrument. It is a beautiful wood body, smooth neck with brass nut, Badass Bridge, Schaller pup's, etc....overall just a great looking/feeling bass. But, I don't know what it is and thought someone out there might recognize it or the builder? The obvious thing on it is the wood Lion inlay....not sure if that was specific to this bass, or a signature of a specific builder? The only markings on the neck and body (neck pocket) is the same "1982" stamp. Any thoughts?

Also...it is fretless and the 4-bolt neck plate is larger than a standard Fender.
