I just ordered my new Flea Bass from Bass Central and got the Seymore Duncan Pickup, I was wondering if anyone out there owned one of these with the different pickups and could give me a idea of the differences in the sounds they produce. I think SD, and Bartolini are the only current options and the Lane Poor which i would have loved is out of production.
    Thanks

I got one with a Lane Poor Pickup/preamp.

Its okay; its not the signature Music man bite, but then again, it isn't a music man :)

Its an okay bass, I liked it for a time but I wasn't totally thrilled with it. I never plugged in the SD equipped one (I work at Bass Central with Gard) but as I understand it, SD's have a bit more bite? (correct me if I am wrong, not too familiar with SD pickups.)

Oh, and if you want, my flea is for sale ;) Its pretty beat up, though. Lots of wee nicks.

Back on topic, you should be pleased with your Decision, but don't expect it to sound like a Music Man. Its totally different, in my opinion. Its a bit more refined.

Have fun with your new bass, man! :)

No as for a music man, Ive alredy got one. I bought it at Bass Central Last summer. The only Flea Basses Ive got to play Had the Lane poor , that i Liked, But i loved the Neck. It feels incredible, aside from the sticky finish, But i ordered mine with the Satin option so hopefully that won't be a problem.
    Thanks for your help though

I have a flea bass with the lane poor pickup. A lot of people compare the flea and music man bass all the time. The lane poor is a really clear, clean sounding pickup and combined with the graphite neck, you get a good sound that leans more towards hi-fi. I've never played a sterling or stingray, but would guess that they would have more midrange and low end to them. I love the graphite neck because it's so stable and I can also leave the bass in alternate tunings for long periods of time. It's a great bass, it just depends whether you like the sound it produces.

    Good one. :D

Back on the subject, I just played a Flea 4 with the Bart pup at Mars Music. I thought it played great, but I didn't really care for the tone. Quite blah. Let us know how the SD sounds when you get it.

Never owned a Flea, but I've got a family of little white spiders who have made their home in my car, does that count?
