I was looking for something small and portable I can plug my bass and iPhone into so I can practice tunes anywhere.

Guy at Sam Ash recommended an Irig HD2 which I bought yesterday.

Right out of the box it doesn't work. Headphone jack is toast apparently.

Im probably going back today to return it or exchange it, but before I do that latter, does anyone here own one and are you happy with it?

well i returned it..wasn't going to get another one but ended up giving it another shot as I really wanted something portable i could play along to music with using headphones. This one worked...sound quality is decent.

Different product, same company - I use a BlueTurn and it's a solid product that does what it's supposed to do with no fuss. Unfortunate if quality control on the iRig is a bit sketchy, but also a reminder that if you are supporting a brick and mortar store, might as well take the opportunity to check it out before you leave the vicinity...

Checkout a Tascam BT MP3 version.
IMHO greatest gizmo I ever bought to practice with
    and fits in your pocket.

I have an iRig HD, but rarely use it. It’s not so much the iRig itself, but the software that goes with it. Amplitube is a lumbering beast, with far too many options. And for practice, I find it almost useless. You’d be better off with a small headphone amp like the VOX.

I have the iRig HD that I connect to my Macbook Pro, works very well. I've recorded with Garage Band and Audacity.

I just ordered a PJB bighead.

Like i said, the second irig i brought home worked, but your description of amplitude being a lumbering beast is spot on. It took me ten minutes of fiddling around with it this am to get it to work and all i really want to do is plug and play.

Agreed - a hardware solution is much simpler and more versatile.
