I was wondering if anyone was still using a 4-track tape recorder. I use a old Fostex like I think it is XR-7. I just don't have the dough to fork out to go digital. If you do still use a 4-track tape recorder, or if you don't, can you give me some tips to get a better sounding recording. I notice that when I transfer the 4-track to a regular cassete and play it I get a very muted crapy sound. Thanks

i mainly use a yamaha md8, but i still use my tascam 414 for the odd thing (after 5 years of use, it's hard to break the habit !!).

to avoid that muted sound, you need to tweak, tweak and tweak some more...your high eq will need boosting when you bounce and make sure your heads are clean.....

...what i found useful was to note down my setting when i did a mix, so that if it turns out great you know why.
