Anyone tried Sovtek bass amps? Opinions?

  1. Hey everyone. I've seen these Sovtek bass amps around but have never tried one. Supposedly one of the models can imitate the Ampeg Portoflex tone. Has anyone tried these Sovtek bass amps? Are they any good? They are really cheap moneywise! Thanks!

I've never played one, but a local player (from Spokane's Seawolf) plays one & sounds great.

  4. Sound,

They have a couple sovtek heads on ebay. Also did some research on the net and from what I read they seem to be well made(no frills)and affordable(compared to other tube heads).I did my search on google.com,had to wade thru a bunch of stuff but found some good info/reviews in the mix.

I don't see the Sovtek bass heads alot but the Mig guitar heads are pretty popular among the guitarists. They're patterned after the "plexi" Marshall circuit and can grind nicely when cranked. I've never worked on one, but I've heard that the jacks are a weak point.

  8. I've never had the opportunity to try one, but from all that I read they sound pretty good. Typical Russian tecnology...simple, rugged and easy to repair. I hear the tech support is first class and the people who own them love the sound. The only complaint is that the top of the line model is rated at 100 watts which leaves most bassists wanting more. My personal feeling about it is that if somebody at Sovtek gets smart, they'll turn out a 350 watt version for a good price and really shake up the market.
