They sound freaking amazing, they use em to replicate pipe organ sounds, and in movie theaters, but I think you need something like an 8cu foot box (bigger maybe?).

For what they are, pretty cheap, there is a recone up on ebay for about 200$

    alternatively,
What is an alternative subwoofer to hit those -30hz bomb drops?

For if there is no PA support and you are using a 6 string bass.

I do play six string basses and a pair of Acme B2 2x10 cabinets take everything that I throw at them. I have no need for larger diameter drivers.

If you choose to use a 2245, note that the original cone kit had terrible mid frequency response. New kits use 2240 components which have somewhat better response but it's still not adequate for full range use. Look up the factory spec sheet for the 2245 and 2240

I just happened to see a reconed one on ebay, after recalling having an organ restoreing friend show me some boom.

I really want a subwoofer.. preferably a nearly free one. Ideally A magic one that leaks purple custard, sprays glitter, fits in my pocket, and weighs 3 ounces. Also it cooks Italian food and carries the rest of my gear.

I wasn't thinking I could get good mid bass response, I want a designated sub , for places where there is no pa support. To use in conjunction with a normal rig. Like a 4-8, or 2 10, 1 15,or 2 12 even better.

I'm about to have an extra 160 watt power amp , a modular designated subwoofer is what I'm thinking. 450 for bass/mid bass, 160 for sub.
