ok here's my dilema... i bought a Modulus Flea bass a while back... 4st. Lane Poor hum. pup.. gotoh bridge.. at the time i bought it, it was great.. its got a very clear even define sound.. right now im in a different situtation right now with a new band project... i want to get a nice growl like a jazz bass.. anyone recommend a pickup? or onboard preamp? i know i can get the sound i want out of a sansamp and i could just buy a jazz bass..but i want to keep pedals/rackmounts as a last resort and i dont want too really want to buy a jazz bass.. i love the feel of my bass.. im not fully against buying another bass... or a sansamp type thing..so please any help voiced will be great. thanks, chris
well, if you're not married to the lane poor pickup you could try an MM pickup that allows series/parallel switching - this'll let you go between the standard cleaner sound and a more midrange focused sound. Or maybe put in a 3 band preamp, so you can boost some low mids? When I had a flea bass, I put in an aguilar obp-3 preamp - it keps the clarity of the bass but I was able to get some 'oomph' in the sound by boosting low mids.
i havent looked in to the obp-3. would i need to modify my bass to install it?(ie. route or drill new holes?) and also.. i looked on musicians friend.. and they have a few the obp-st3, obp-sk3 and then the /pp for both..would u know what the difference would be or which would help most?
I know the opb-1 was an option for the flea basses. So maybe an opb-3 will fit as well. The bart. pre I have in my flea had the added midrange knob @400. They are also making flea basses with Jazz pups now. Maybe eq your amp diff.
hey i got a bart NTBT(i think thats what it said..) pre on mines with the lane poor pups.. i know i played a flea once with 4 knobs... vol/bass/treb/mid? i dont know.. mines has 3... vol/bass/treb.. on the pre itself theres something i can turn... spectrol? i dont know what it does...
Well, you could drill another hole if you wanted. I just had vol,mid (push/pull freq), stacked bass/treble. As to the Aguilar Kits, the underlying preamp is exactly the same but the pots included differ depending on kit. TK has separate mid, bass, treble pots and the SK has mid pot and stacked bass/treble (although in reality you could choose to wire it bass and stacked mid/treble). The PP kit has the mid pot with push/pull, otherwise a regular switch is included. So, to sum up Assuming you don't want to drill any holes get the OBP-3SK/PP
Cool... these kits weren't available a couple years ago when I put an OBP-3 into a Stingray 5 and found there was no pot available that would allow push/pull switching of the midfreq (thread here ) Did the push-pull midfreq pot have a center detent?
i dont have the OBP3 in stacked but i believe they have all their tone pots with center detents. at least my OBP3 is
