Aphex 661 (651) Expressor...

    ...any observations/opinions that can be shared by current and one-time owners of this unit? Does it 'color' the sound, or is it 'transparent'? Do you find it works better before the preamp, in the effects loop or right before the power amp?

    Any info would be invaluable.

    I had the 661. Sold it for a pedal compressor. It was a good compressor, clean but it was noisier then the pedal comps I tested against it. I keeped the Empress compressor because it just did everything I like about the Aphex but better. (Sustain, low noise, clean, metering, ect...) I only use compression for sustain and definition though. If your looking for limiting, I can't help you there. But if you need a rack compressor it is a good one.
