Hello people, I stumbled across a Aria Pro II SB Elite-I and I am wondering if Aria was any good back then. I know Cliff used a similar bass but that is as much as I know. Do you think it is worth it for $1000 USD? Also, are their modern basses good?
old AP IIs are all superb basses, you can likely cop everything the Elite offers in a far cheaper package the new stuff has appeal, some highly, but there's been little review of it so far. I'm intrigued.
Welcome to the forum! In my view - being someone who played Arias "back then" as in 35+ years ago - they were very well-made basses and SB-1000 was played by both Jack Bruce and John Taylor. No opinion on their modern offerings but I'm skeptical that they match Aria's '80s heyday. SB Elites are not very common basses but $1K for an Elite I sounds a bit steep IMO but I'm not an expert on pricing old Arias by any means. Have you ever played any of the Aria basses from this era ? What type of music/sound are you interested in ?
I haven't played any Aria, I noticed the brand because of Cliff Burton and I am looking for a bass that can handle distortion but has a wide dynamic range. Any recimendations? I looked at the classics: p bass, thunderbird and jazz bass.
An 80s Aria bass would be the only era of Aria I’d consider buying. A thousand bucks, though, is outrageously high. Won’t make you sound like Cliff either.
No one can sound like Cliff, haha. How much would you consider to be a fair price? It is in mint conditions.
