Are Lakland Skyline finishes as inconsistent as they look on the Internet?

Nobody where I live sells Lakland Skylines so I've been doing all of my shopping on the Internet. I've noticed that there seems to be a lot of variation in the tobacco sunburst and cherry sunburst finishes (even allowing for the different quality and sources of the images). In particular, the colors of one bass will appear to blend smoothly and gradually from one to another, while another bass will have somewhat abrupt color changes. For those of you who have seen these basses in person, is this really the case? Or is it just the images I'm viewing? I included a sample image below of what I'm talking about.

One other thing... The cherry sunburst seems quite bright in many of the pictures I've seen. Is it really bright in person or is it more toned down and tasteful?

    Thanks for your help,
    Javy

The Skyline finishes are absolutely great. What you're seeing is bad photos.

I have a 55-02 Deluxe in cherry sunburst and a JO-5 in Lake Placid blue. Both have finishes that are to die for.

Not to try to plug any dealers, but I got my 55-02 from Adrian Garcia (Hi Adrian!) at http://www.access-bass.com, and he does a pretty good job of getting his photos on the net.

Here's the full shot from my avatar from Adrian's site. It is pretty close to how the bass really looks, at least on my computer and monitor.

I had a 55-01 that the finish was just OK, nothing special.

The 44-02 & currently have , the finish is excellent.

Both basses I bought from Gard @ www.basscentral.com

Thanks for the picture. That's the highest quality image I've seen of cherry sunburst (and very nice too!).

    Nononono.
The finish on the 55-01 was just OK. A few spots near the control cavity, neckbolts & pickups that were over buffed & you saw some wood.

The finish on the 44-02 is very nice. the quilt is AWESOME. MUCH Better than I expected. But their were a few things that were undesirable, but I could live with them:
    1. Neck heel too small for neck pocket
    2. Black finish in truss rod route is sloppy
    3. tuning machines not properly alligned
[/list=1] It bugs me slightly but I can live with it. Eventually, I'll tyu to fix it as best I can.
