Are the Ric 4003 frets bigger then the 4001?

My school has an early 1974 Ric 4001, great condition. I started out on that, and then bought my own 4003 (after going through several other basses), I noticed the frets are slightly bigger. Am I imagining things?

    Like uh...

Perhaps the older one just has fret wear?

The Frets on my new 4003 are wider and taller than my old 4001. I have also noticed pickups have changed, pickguard and headstock plastic has changed and I think tone too.
Not all bad though, I like the bigger frets :)
