Discussion in 'Recording Gear and Equipment [BG]' started by Freaky Fender, Jan 8, 2005.

  1. Could someone help me get the dang Libmp3lame.so file? I can't figure out how to compile it from the source code. I'm running linux so it's extra hard... :bawl: please help!

That file (libmp3lame.so - note it's all lower case) should be included as part of the Lame package.

What version (RedHat, Fedora, Debian, etc) of Linux are you running?

You can also search for the file to see if it is already on your system:

    Code:
    ls -l /usr/lib/libmp3lame*
      or
    ls -l /usr/local/lib/libmp3lame*

  3. I downloaded the lame package, but I can't find the file. Only the folder.

    I'm running Fedora

Since you're having trouble compiling (and you're running Fedora), you could just download and install a compiled package for your version of Fedora.

    Fedora versions:

    Fedora Core 1
    Fedora Core 2
    Fedora Core 3

You want to install both (lame and lame-devel) "i386" packages (but not the ".src.rpm" source package).

  5. Durh. Ok. I actually had downloaded BOTH (for whatever reason... I probably had other things on my mind) and I have the i386 file. There is no libmp3lame.so file in there, so I'm under the impression I have to do something, but I have no idea what it is or how to do it.

Hmm, you should see it in the "devel" package:

    Code:
    rpm -qpl lame-devel-3.96.1-2.1.fc3.fr.i386.rpm
    /usr/include/lame
    /usr/include/lame.h
    /usr/include/lame/lame.h
    /usr/lib/libmp3lame.a
    [B]/usr/lib/libmp3lame.so[/B]
    /usr/share/doc/lame-devel-3.96.1
    /usr/share/doc/lame-devel-3.96.1/API
    /usr/share/doc/lame-devel-3.96.1/HACKING
    /usr/share/doc/lame-devel-3.96.1/STYLEGUIDE

  7. I don't see the devel package. At all.

    You're welcome :)

I've been using Audacity for the last few years and it's a nice little tool.
