Ashdown Combo Shootout

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by Arch Giddle, Jun 30, 2002.

  1. Okay these are the contenders:

    Ashdown MAG 250 1x15
    Ashdown MAG 250 2x10h
    Ashdown MAG 400 1x15
    Ashdown ABM 300 1x10

I know the ABM will sound the best, but its also the most expensive!

Which of these is the overall best amp, taking into account price, sound, volume and weight.

I'd get the ABM like a shot, but I'm a bit concerned about spending 700 quid on an amp that's too quiet to be heard in a gig situation.

    Would appreciate your opinions?

It really depends on your music style and volume level. That said, the Ashdown 15" is much tighter sounding than other 15". I usually prefer a 210, but in Ashdowns case I'll accept a 15". I still prefer the 210 though. I like the punch and clarity.

From the above choices, mine would be MAG-250 w/2x10" first, MAG-400 w/15" second.

BTW, the Bass Place is blowing out some Ashdown on eBay. They are new with warranty. They have a MAG 200 4x10" that's currently at $695 with no bids.

The Ashdown MAG 400 range has now been discontinued by Ashdown, so look out for some shops offering good deals to shift their stocks. That's what I'm doing (waiting for a good price on a MAG 400 2x10 or 4x10 combo).
