ASHDOWN MAG 300 sound question

I just bought an Ashdown MAG 300 12"x2 combo.
I use a 5 string Carvin neck through.

I'm not too familiar with amplification, as I've recently started playing.

When I plug into my amp the B sound pretty distorted, is this normal or you think something is up with the amp?
I've heard and read lots of great reviews about the MAG 300 so I'm suprised that is seems to "fail" to deliver that low B sound clearly.

    Any concerns?

First thought is the battery in your bass might be about dead.

Second thought is that you have the input/gain pretty high. When I used a MAG300, i found it was best to control the volume with the Master, and leave the gain pretty low (using an active bass).

Third thought, you might just have too much low bass being pushed.

I use a MAG300 head with a MAG210T and have no issue of that kind, even in the deepest and lowest B.

Just be careful with the VU meter : looks like it shows less than the real input gain. So as adviced just above, don't crank much on the gain and set the master volume a little higher if needed.
