I have an older Mag 200 115 combo and I generally run it flat without the bass octave boost and use the preamp and pickups on my bass to vary the tone. Sometimes I will cut the bass a little (about 10 to 10:30). However, I have more flexibility with the Highlander preamp in my Rick Turner Electroline PMM than most basses, so I may not be the best example. Play with the amp and see what you like.
Alright, thanks. To be a better help, I has a passive MIM Fender P-Bass, I'm looking for a nice slap tone and a nice punk tone (think Matt Freeman.) Thanks!
I've never played punk, so I can't help with that, but I do like to slap alot. My amp settings are: Bass - 1:00 220 Hz - 1:00 Middle - 9:00 1.6 Khz - Between 4 and 5:00 Treble - 2:00 No boosts, no suboctave, just the EQ. What kind of cab are you running it into? If it has a tweeter, I would recommend playing around with it - I change mine all the time, it can really affect the sound. Hope this helps
I play hard rock/metal and leave mine mostly flat, sometimes boosting the high mids a little and adding some sub-harmonics. I always kill the tweeter in my Avatar 2x12.
Bass 3:00 Low mids 3:00 Mids 12:00 Treble: 1:00 Sub Bass thing: really low Bright off Bass Boost off Gain pretty low, controlled volume with Master. I used this setup in a metal band with an SWR 1x15 and an Avatar 2x10 pro, or SWR 1x15 with Mesa Diesel 1x15. It was great, even better with sansamp. I sold my MAG and miss the colored tone of it once in a while.
i usually just rock the head on flat or with the internal EQ. Usually boost the mids a bit and add some bass for flavor. no deep or bright or subharmonics.
