  2. I would prefer not to be referred to as a "brotha", but I'm Chinese, too.

And my english is better than a lot of these folk.
  3. I'm Chinese too.

Put me in the better English category as well. Heck, I have had to correct the spelling for English graduate students!!!

And, of course, Long Ly. But he may be another Asian type ... Vietnamese, Lao, maybe?
Anyway, of course you Chinese folks correct our English. You're just so damned smart! You single-handedly destroyed the grading curve in all of my engineering classes.
  6. No clue about asian bassists though.
  7. I'm an aussie...

  8. I am half Indonesian, does that counts??:D

And check out Chris minh Doky...great bassplayer, electric and up right.
He played with Mike Stern...he is very young, but already he can be in the top 5 of the best bassplayers of da world..

Have you ever heard of "chopper bass"??? It's a Flea-on-meth slap style that was/is ruling Japan, (well, "Fwee" as they say).

One night, during a break, a stock broker friend of mine in the audience intro'd me to a Japanese client of his who is a "chopper bassist" in his spare time.

I asked him to do a song with my band using one of my basses on the upcoming set and he slapped that thing so silly, (a Precis, yet!), that I had to retune it afterwards!

Trouble was, that style was his only strength.

I suppose a search engine could tell you more.

    I'm half-korean...
  13. from the Philippines here - in-transit to Appleton WI via NJ.

There are some killer local bass players who don't necessarily have a web presence or are recognized outside their own countries.

The example of "Chopper" bass is a good one.

The guy from the Deftones is asian iirc.
  15. Japanese bassists are definetely one of the
best around. Too bad they're not noticed outside
of Japan. Here are some guys you might find
    quite interesting.

    Taiji Sawada (ex-X Japan, Loudness)
: I don't know his present status but he really
rocks!! Very melodic, yet heavy bass lines.

Tetsu (L'Arc~en~Ciel) : Great Tone, incredible
lines. Quite hard to imitate 'em.

    Naoto Shibata (ex-Anthem, Loudness)
: One of the most versatile bassists I know!!
He covers everything from blues to heavy metal.
Check out his works on the japanese Cozy Powell
    album 'Rest In Peace'.

By the way, I'm not Japanese.
    I happen to be a K.O.R.E.A.N;)

I guess my chinese ancestry would qualify me as an asian bassist. =P

Only prominent ones I can think of are:

Phil Chen who (I believe) sessions in LA,
Shinobu Kawai of Super Junky Monkey,
    Tetsuo Sakurai of Casiopea

gee... there aren't too many of us out here eh?
