I started playing bass when I was 27. That was 27 years ago. I started playing trumpet 46 years ago. Tuba? 42 years ago. Five-string banjo? 38 years ago. Ditto stand-up bass. The onliest thing I play now, though, is five-string electric bass guitar.

I started bass when I was 16. I started playing guitar one year before that. I still play both. Been plying piano (sort of)for about five years and upright for about three.

    I started at age 15. I'm still 15.

I'll be 16 in 2 weeks, but it has been a little less than a year.

Started late...age 49. I am now almost 59. So that makes ten years of bass playing. My advice: Don't wait until you are 49 to start playing a musical instrument. If you do, you will be starting with a considerable handicap.

I took piano lessons from age 10-12, quit, took up trumpet at 12 and started playing "fender" bass (that's what ALL electric basses were called then regardless of brand) shortly thereafter. I've been playing bass for about 28 years. Whew.
  18. Started piano when I was 7, but for some reason I waited until I was 15 before picking up the bass. I've been playing for about two and a half years now.
