Avatar 212 vs. Ampeg SVT 410HLF

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by bthiemann80, Aug 23, 2007.

  1. Ok, I've been looking to scale down my Ampeg PR810 for a while now. Its down to either an Ampeg SVT 410HLF or a Avatar 212. Both are rated for 500 watts and both boast a capacity for dishing out highs and lows quite effectively.

Now, I plan to get a Avatar 210 regardless of which of these cabs I get for the sheer sake of portability and smaller gigs. Would either of these cabs be able to compete with the volume of the Ampeg PR810 when paired with the Avatar 210? I use an Ampeg SVT-CL head and with the PR810 I never need to put the volume past 7 for any situation. I like having that extra headroom, the PR810 is rated for 1200 watts where the 410HLF or 212 is rated at 500 watts plus the 210 at 500 watts for a total of 1000 watts. I imagine this probably could compete. But I would like to see if anyone has any experience w/ the 212 and 210 setup or 410HLF and 210 setup.

I used the Avatar 210/212 setup with my SVT-CL, but it did not do it for me. It lacked that Ampeg-mid-range-growl.
The amp was turned up very loud, there was a lot of speaker movement, but there was no noticable loud sound coming from the cabs... Hard to explain, but this is what I experienced with this combination...
I sold them both and just used an Ampeg SVT412HE (or my 610HLF) and never looked back... Can't comment on the Ampeg 410HLF/Avatar 210 combination though...
