I've had the box to test my DNA sitting at home for about 2 years, I'm a procrastinator, but then during Covid, I thought it was a bad idea to do the test. This gives me some incentive, cause I like the weird stuff I might find out.

6'1" when I wake up, 5'11 7/8" when I finally collapse. Coffee all day, probably 8 to 10 cups, but it's Maxwell House Instant. Does that count?

In the U.S. the CDC has conducted a national surveys to determine average body measurements. Last I heard the most current survey determined the statistical median height for an adult male was 5’9”.

I’m 5’9”…so call me Joe Average.

As far as musicians go, one lady drummer I know said “The average height of a male musician (in shoes) is a half inch taller than his boss at his day job; and (out of shoes) a full inch shorter than the girl he’s dating.

I don’t know if that’s actually true. Maybe she was just having a bad day?

    Who are You Calling Average?

(probably a compliment in my case, but still)

  6. I thought in one of the videos of your gig that you were taller than most women or was that someone else?

I hit 6'-2" when I was 14. I prayed I wouldn't grow much more because it was hard to fit clothes I was so skinny. Then I topped a year later at 6'-4". I don't mind losing an inch at age 70.

    Much more wouldn't be good.

Wow - assuming you're a cylinder and the human body is roughly equal density as water that'd give you a 122" waist.

The distribution cluster from 5'10" to 6'2" is 59.9%, whereas 5'9" is only 6.6%. That leaves only 34.5% of respondents below the median. That does not seem to be a typical distribution. So "suspect" in my mind. One might expect there to be roughly as many respondents below the median as above. How do you account for that?

Also, I don't think "average (median)" is actually a thing. A value is either the average or the median, but cannot be both. If I understand statistics properly.

I do not know what the median height for American males is. I only know the average. The median would be more meaningful.

...and a mean person is average, or below.

  17. Perhaps some bassists exaggerate their height, the same way they exaggerate their talent. :bassist:

I am 5'7" so a little taller than average. The guitarist I play with is probably the same height and I don't think our LS is much taller. That drummer is 6'4" so if he were standing up he'd dwarf all of us.

  19. As of 5:40 pm EST, the average (Mean) height is 71" (5'-11").

The Mean is the same as the average value of a data set and is found by adding up all of the numbers (heights) and dividing by the number of numbers in the data set (total number of voters).

    upload_2021-6-10_17-46-31.png

Median is the central number in a data set. Arrange the data points smallest to largest and locate the central number.

Mode is the number in the data set which occurs most frequently.

So based on the above chart, the Average height of polled bass players is 5'-11".
