I'm just curious: will those tiny little frets on the am vintage '64 jazz bass wear out and need refretting quickly? Never had vintage frets. But I love the way they feel

  2. No, they last just fine.

Assuming I use nickel round wounds, would they last at least 10 years?

There's basses from the 60's that still have their original frets.

There's many factors that will determine fret life.

Agreed, many factors involved. String choice, play style, etc. I have never had a problem with premature wear with vintage style frets. I do prefer them as you don't feel them as much while playing larger frets.

The Fender '64 AV jazz bass is a terrific instrument. There is one near me that I am considering. Plays great, feels great, sounds awesome.

Well, I do slap, and I know that can wear on frets. Just don't want to have to refret it any time soon

I don't think you are going to have much of a problem. Especially, if you use nickel wound strings(D'Addario XL's, Sunbeams, etc). There are quite a few vintage 60's Fenders with the original frets still out there.
