Got this for myself a few days ago for my birthday (12/23) and Christmas present. Gibson Q-80 in red. Pots date to March 1987, making this one of the first production models. Production ran from 1987-1992. This one spent many years on the road with a horror/punk ska band out of South Carolina by the name of The Independents. Bass is in excellent shape considering its history. I'm having a new truss rod cover made for it and it will be complete after that. Interestingly, the standard Gibson bridge has Made In Germany on the underside. Really liking this heavy redhead.

Sorry about the upside pics. I made them right side up, but they downloaded like this.

    Merry Christmas.

Great birthday!! Busy all day and no time to play with new present. Tomorrow's another day though.

    Happy BDay!

Those hair metal era Gibsons are cool. The Q80 is a real good sounding bass too.

  4. I am very familiar with that band. They toured with the Ramones a few times. That is a great bass with really nice pickups. Enjoy!

Congrats on the bass. those oddball '80s Gibsons were some of the best looking they made. Regarding the bridge, it's likely it was made for them by Schaller as an OEM part, and Schaller is located in Germany.

Very cool information. So this bass has a somewhat illustrious history to it. So much the better. It'd be very cool to find of pic of them with it being played.
