I set all my long scale 4 banger bass's up with B E A D strings/tuning. I just ordered a Mustang bass and realized and found that getting and finding BEAD string's to fit the Mustang bass might be a bit problematic. Most short scale strings are said to be to short because of the string thur body design of the Mustang,, med scale strings seem to be hard to find,, let alone finding a bottom B string. String suggestions would be GREAT please. Thanks in advance Cheers Davyo
Right you need Medium Scale strings that will work going thru-body. Is there a particular type of string you are looking for? Round Wound / Flat Wound etc? Another issue is going to be if you can fit a B string through the body / bridge. You should at least find out the thickest string you can get through the hole... Figuring out what tail piece will work is the easier part once you have that info.
Thanks for the reply Slapinfunk Round Wound string's are what Im looking for. I was thinking a 125 guage low B "should" fit thru the Mustang body but then again Im in a catch 22,,, if I use a 125 B string it might be to floppy on a short scale neck ??? If I use a 135 B string for more tension it might not fit thru the body and I might have to do extra mods to the bass,,, widening the string slots on the nut and reaming out the string holes on the body to fit the heavier strings. So far I not been able to find 5 string Round Wound sets in a Short or Med scale. Cheers Davyo
If you get a good quality B string you should be fine with a .125. They are available, they just need to be "made"... I sen't you a PM about that...
