B String Fundamental?

Discussion in 'Effects [BG]' started by billbuhlman, Jan 12, 2012.

  1. You know that big deep clear sounding B string you hear when you listen to bassists in Gospel music? I know the bass has a lot to do with the tone but is there an effect that helps? How do they get their B String to sound like that?

You probably aren't really hearing the fundamental, and if you are, it's likely more a result of the cabinet being used than any pedal. With that said, a pedal like say the FEA Growler can kind of "trick" your ears into hearing lower notes a little clearer on certain settings by creating a synthetic 2nd harmonic.
