is it possible to get a set of strings for a 5 string bass and put the B-E-A-D strings on my 4 string bass? just to let you know i have a ibanez which is quite small, can the neck handle the extra tension? will it sound decent?

It'll be fine, but you'll have to take the bass to a competant tech to get the nut filed to the correct size so the string will fit in.

So you know, the B string has less tension than the G string...so the neck will get less tension that if strung standard.

I strung my '75 P BEAD for awhile and it sounded great..better than I expected it would. I switched back after a few months( because my main 5 string is a RB5) But if you want 5 string bottom without buying a 5 string then going BEAD is a very viable alternative. And if you don't like it you can have a EADG nut re-installed easily.
