Was reading the tube vs SS thread and got wondering, what would be an inexpensive back up I could plug into my power amp if the Kern were to poop out? Dangerously or not, I don't carry a back up preamp. Of course we only play 1-2x per month.

I always carry the J-Retro stompbox as a back-up pre. Good EQ, good DI, small and VERY portable.

+1 on the DI sized pre suggestion.
I usually have a Fishman Pro Platinum EQ and SABDDI in my bag just in case whatever head I'm using decides to take a vacation on stage. Not exactly optimal on tone (to my ears, although they are both usable), but takes up very little space and they are both fairly cheap.

    Another Kern?

The Fender TPB 1 (I think that's what it's called) sounds really good actually.

I would think that the poweramp would more likely crap out than anything else...

Sans Amp DI. Never leave home without it.

Fellow cheesehead who wants good draft picks for Christmas....
