Hi, my friend recorded our last rehersal and put it out on youtube. It's recorded with a small camera, so the quality is not 100 percent. (Nor the playing...) Anyway, I thought that this might be interesting as it's a little different music for funk electric bass. I play mostly double bass and tuba - but think that electric bass is the best option in this setting. Would love to hear your comments! best regards Thomas Dawidowski
wow supernice playing. Great song too. Actually pretty good sound if just recorded with the camera mic except the constant "hot" signal. Next time turn the bass down i think. But good seperation between the instruments. More!!!
Yeah, I dig it !!!! Somewhere between my all-American funk soul, and my Ukraininan/German immigrant's son genetics! SO it resonantes with me. Almost has a Flecktones" smell to it! Thomas, nice work on the bass! Great groove, I mean for a white man. I jest. You have the pulse NAILED in that tune. Keep on FUNKIN' - doest it feel GREAT! Vorago, wip out that squeezebox AND FUNK IT UP!!!!
Wow - I didn't know the accordion could funk! It is funky looking that's for sure. Nice playing all around.
FonKay!!! Nice playing man. you really got a great feel and i was loving all the ghost noting. nice funk. i dig the accordian too, that thing is straight funky man, nice drummer. well played
Great and different - very good bass playing. I would go listen to you. Suddenly I have a craving for a stein of beer.
Wow, thanks for the all the nice comments! I'll pass all the comments to the drummer and accordeon player. One thing to share on a forum like this: when I'm out gigging this kind of music using playing electric bass there's always people telling me that they would much more prefer double bass. And those people often get quite provoked if I tell them that double bass and tuba are my main instruments. Sometimes I try to explain that electric is actually more in line with the tradition, or that it's simply better as you can play a more distinct disco or funk style. But that seldom works. I've learned that it's better just to let those comments pass... I think that the electric bass, at least here in Sweden, is often viewed as a rock or pop instrument that should not be used in ethnic music.
BAH! Your head is exactly where it should be. Remember, we ONLY have to defer To Mother Music. No one elses opinion is really important.
Friends and allies, a new recording was made yesterday. I learned the tune minutes before we made the take, so it's some rough playing on my part. But the accordeonist and drummer are rock solid. /TD
Excellent music!! I'm Greek so I have a soft spot for Balkan, Macedonian, Serbian sounding music.. Really enjoyed all the videos!
I actually know about that american band. I have a friend who lives in Brooklyn close to the club that has a lot of eastern music. Although I have not heard the full band live. I think that Slavic Soul Party a really good band. But if you like that type of music you should not miss the bands and musicians from Macedonia, Serbia, Bulgary etc.
