Bands Named after a fictional person or non-member

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous [BG]' started by gjbassist, Apr 14, 2012.

  1. So I was thinking about band names the other day and wondering how many bands there have been named after a person either fictional or not in the group.
Lynyrd Skynyrd, Jethro Tull and Max Webster come to mind but are there others?

Does Mott the Hoople count (fictional character)? Hows about Creedence Clearwater Revival?

Ben Folds Five? There is indeed a Ben Folds, but there're only three members.:)

There was a Scottish pop group called Danny Wilson, back in the late 80s. Their best known song is "Mary's Prayer", from their debut album "Meet Danny Wilson". The name of the group was taken from the Sinatra film of the same title as their album.

...and they (Danny Wilson) at times sound a little like a very, very pop version of early 80's Steely Dan, another band that fits into this category.

  17. A bit of trivia for y'all. Some of us already know that Steely Dan was a vibrator from William S. Burroughs' Hot Lunch. But did you know that Allison Chaynes is a adult film actress? She is somewhat young, so she was named after the band and not the other way around.
