So, our guitarist mentioned the fact that we have as many former members as we do current members. I got to thinking about this and, according to the interweb, discovered that The Misfits only have one original member (the bassist, who is actually their second bassist), but they have 19 former members to their current number of 4. Can anyone find a band with a higher ratio than this?

Iron Maiden is up there with about 17 or 18 former members.

...and how about Santana returning to their "classic" Woodstock/early '70s/Santana III lineup (minus David Brown & Chepito Areas)?
    Album due out in April/May?

    Got the numbers, please?
  11. Not even close. The musicians that have recorded albums with Maiden and are now gone-

    Clive Burr
    Paul Dianno
    Blaze Bayley
    Dennis Stratton

Maiden currently has 6 in the band-

    Bruce Dickinson
    Steve Harris
    Dave Murray
    Jannick Gers
    Nicko Mcbrain
    Adrian Smith

I'm not going to include the guys that played with Harris in his living room when he first formed Maiden.

I did---only because Harris mentions most of them by name ( as being part of the band ) in interviews published here:

Many of them came and went in their club days, from '76 onward--before the recording of "Iron Maiden".

Just off the top of my head, King Crimson has 7 current members and at least 17 former members...I'll bet if I spent a couple more minutes thinking about it that number would go up over 20.

And Yes has 5 current members -- none of whom are original members, btw -- and 10 or 11 [edit: sorry, make that 11 or 12] former members, depending on whether Tom Brislin counts.

I think it would be easier to list the bands that always had their original line up from their first recording.

Great thread... I know April Wine has chewed through some staff, it's really only Myles at this point. Wikipedia says 11 former members and 4 current.

  19. I play with 2 former members of Savoy Brown and we joke about the number Kim has gone through. I know for a fact there's more than listed on Wikipedia.
  20. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned being in local bands with more former members than current members. ;) I have done that a "few" times and learned why nobody stays. Then again, the same could be said about my department. o_O
