well, i hope this hasn't been done, but i was curios, i really like songs without drums, but i can't find many bands or even songs without them. does anyone know any? i'm looking for mostly rock bands, and anything that would fall in or near this catagory, but i'm open to anything. thanks.

Rendez-Vous (This was an acoustic jazz trio I've been in with two guitarists. Lots of challenging fun on the semi-acoustic fretless!)

XTC has no drummer, but they use session guys.
    Tears For Fears
    The Communards
Dream Academy (Anyone remember those guys)
    Durutti Column
    The Gypsy Kings
    The Dixie Chicks
John McLaughlin trios with Trilok Gurtu.
  8. not rock, but here's a few:
    YoYo Ma/Edgar Meyer/Mark O'Connor - Appalachain Journey, Appalachain Waltz

Ponty/DiMeola/Clarke - the Rite of Strings

Dianna Krall - Love Scenes (w/Russell Malone and Chris McBride)

I cant think of any rock w/o drums offhand except for the song 'Aqueous Transmissions' on Incubus' 'Morning View' record.

I'm not up on contemporary rock (too old :D) but there have been drummerless rock bands in the past, and not just "acoustic" bands, either:

Steeleye Span (OK, they added a drummer after their 5th album ;) )

Mark/Almond (OK they added a drummer after a while, too  )

    John Mayall's Turning Point band

String Driven Thing (waitaminnit, didn't they get a drummer eventually, too? )

So yeah, it's always been rare to try to rock with no drums.

I've played many gigs without a drummer. Personally, I prefer having a drummer, but when push comes to shove, you can do most any song without drums.
