The Euro is doing pretty badly against the dollar, so I took the opportunity to order the Barefaced One10T (with the tweeter) I’ve been drooling over for years.
I’m gunna sell off my PJB gear, but I fear I mighta shoulda gone with the Two10…

I’m pretty excited about it - got the “top hat” PA stand add-on to elevate it. I’ll be running my Red Eye into an AI head and use it for upright+vocals/horns.

Should be here in 6 weeks or so…

Stupid gear lust always gets the better of me…

Congrats ! I’m sure it’ll be a killer combo

I went for the slightly larger FRFR Super Midget (although only 3 pounds heavier than the One10T), also going through an AI Clarus SL. All I can say is: My amplification search is over. This combo sounds fantastic with Double Bass, my two Jazz Basses (fretted + fretless), MK Studio EUB; even my Jazz guitar and my Acoustic nylon string guitar sounds great through it :)

Yes - I want that! I am so burnt out on gear and the pursuit thereof. I want to literally turn off that [hyper developed] part of my musical brain. Here’s to hoping!

Please let me know your experience with the One10T. I just received mine a week ago after a 4 month wait. I’m hoping the cab will warm up after a few more gigs but so far I had been unimpressed. Playing in a normal jazz quartet setting (acoustic piano, sax, bass and drums) this cab had little to no bottom end. My E string disappears. If I push the volume at all or or try to EQ in a little more bass, it distorts. It’s very clean and clear though. It might work better in a super low volume duo setting. It’s definitely not better than the Acoustic Image double shot.
I guess my quest for an all in one lightweight cab under 30 pounds will continue.

That's disappointing, especially since Barefaced touts its ability to produce the low end even with the compactness and lightness. Do you think you might have a lemon?

Supposedly the Barefaced cabs open up over time. So the low end might start speaking better. I'm not sure the tens are what Alex would normally recommend for upright. I placed an order for a BB3 a month ago to replace my MAS cabinets. Barefaced stuff isn't cheap so I am really hoping this will be the last cab I ever buy.

I’m hoping it does open up. I did talk to Alex and let him know that I wanted a cab to replace my Wizzy 12 that could handle my low C and be lighter than the Wizzy’s 35 pounds. He recommended the One10T. I was surprised because I was wanting a 12. Maybe he didn’t understand and just heard “upright player, wants light cab that he can carry in one hand and bass on the other”.
Please let me know about the BB3, because that was what I was originally asking him about before he recommended the 10T.

If he recommended it, I bet it will work and just needs to "open" up.

Maybe I'll just keep using my old Acme Low B-1 for now.
It weighs in just under 30# and low end is definitely not an issue with that design! (Power used to be – not so much since the class D revolution.)
I do look forward to hearing more long-term reports on the Barefaced, though. I see more small cab usage in my future.

My Barefaced 1 10, with a Walter Woods, is full in the bass, and if I turned it up all the way, too loud for a "big band" playing tutti forte. And the light weight of the Barefaced has made life much easier, not needing a hand cart to move it around. I've had it foir a couple of years, and I don't think its sound has changed. For me, it is wonderful.

My Barefaced Super Midget (12”) was a bit anemic in the low end out of the box, but after a week or so the low end really opened up a lot and I can get some serious earth shattering lows. On day two I actually plugged my audio interface into the Clarus and had Logic Pro running a continuous 20Hz-10kHz sine sweep for a few hours (albeit at a moderate volume) to ‘loosen up’ the speaker a bit. Which actually did help with the low end.

I have only used friends' barefaced 1x10 and/or 1x12 cabs with bass guitar (rock, reggae, and even a hip hop gig), but they've been comically loud every time. Incredible cabs. Happy to hear they're good for double bass as well...

Guess I need to run to the store for some tums, because y'all are giving me GAS.

They say my new one10t ships Monday - they had a hard time sourcing tweeters for a minute. I’m looking for more of a personal monitor on a PA stand that I can double as a vocal/horn cab, so it doesn’t have to be crazy loud for me. I’ve got PJB gear that gets super loud, but prefer to run through the house for the power when needed - not really what I’m after, though. I quit the rockabilly band, focusing on my ‘acoustic’ jazz chops (and banjo at present). I play a bunch of instruments and am excited about the potential of “one cab to do it all”.

My Celestine gold 10” guitar speaker in my Princeton took about a year and a half to break in (no joke!). I kinda figure it goes with the territory. In keeping with the collective talkbass consciousness I am actively working on playing lighter and leaning on the amp more - my hope is that this box feels like a natural extension of the axe.

I wonder if there is something wrong. I have used mine on resonable volume country gigs with pedal steel and guitar and it held up fine. i was shocked it kept up no problem

Isn't Barefaced based in England where they use GBP not Euros?

It’s ok - I said it! And I stand by it! It legit helps to remind myself on the daily lest I start thinking otherwise — you know what I mean? I’ll take ‘contented idiot’ over ‘broody pseudo-intellectual’ every day of the week!

  20. Let me know how you like it! I haven't tested the One10T, but I've been using the "regular" One10 for maybe 6 years and I recently also got a Super Midget. For me, there's always plenty low end with the One10 but with the Super Midget I get more clarity for the highs and mids which in turn makes it easier to hear the pitch center on louder gigs or in rooms that sound muddy.
