Baritone guitar strings on a bass

Discussion in 'Strings [BG]' started by dragoon419, Dec 5, 2007.

  1. I was wondering if baritone guitar strings will fit my 34 inch scale bass. I plan on using D'addario strings.

    Thanks.

If I recall, the 3 higher higher pitched ones will work for either 34" or 35" scale, but the lower-pitched ones with an additional wrap will not as that wrap finishes before the nut of a 34" scale.

  3. I tried using a set of guitar strings I had lying around, D'addarios, and strings 6 through 4 fit on my bass, but string 3 was too short.

I have a B.C. Rich Warlock, with the 4 tuners on one side, if that helps.

use piccolo bass strings - .52-.20

same guages but will reach up to 35 scale.

Doesn't matter where the tuners are on your headstock - as I said, it's that the final winding on the lower pitched strings won't even make it to the nut. But the other three or fours work fine. For the fatter two or three the tensions/unit weights are easy enough to approximate with standard-cutoff bass strings anyway.

I know the Fender Bass VI strings will fit a 34 scale bass.
