I have a Bart P pup already wired up. But I'm curious about something. It has only one lead, black, that's wired to the volume pot. Why is there not a white lead like most pickups?

the braid around the hot wire is the ground. That's soldered to somewhere, right?

Not sure I can explaing well enough, but other P-pups I've had and wiring schematics I've seen had both a white and black lead.

The two halves of this bart are wired together and then a single lead eminates from the pickup. If you were to look at Fender's MIM Precision schematic, just ignore all references to the white wires.

Kinda' weird, then again I ain't no electronics whiz.

Ah, I took a look at EMG's site and it appears similar to Diagram 1 for P-type pickups minus the battery. And it does have a ground wire.

Like I said, I can follow a diagram but I don't know what's happening there. I'm just going to assume I'll survive when I touch the knobs.

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you're trying to say. Could you take a photo?
