bart pickups for j bass

i was thinking about putting some new pickups in my j bass, its an american and has the stock pickups right now, and the barts caught my eye. i was thinking a pair of them and possible the matching preamp, but i was wondering how much sound improvement i would get with the barts passive and with them active.
