Bart Pre-amp (3.4). what kind of p'ups do i use?

Im currently building a 4-string, neck through body, bass completly from scratch. (only buying electronics and other hardware parts). As far as electronics go, im considering using a Bartolini NTMB- 3.4 pre-amp.

I dont really know too much about the unit, as far as what type of pickups i need to use. I want a set of J's, but im not sure as to if i need to purchase Active or passive p'ups, and what brand would work best. i've been looking at DiMarzio model J's, and EMG Select jazz p'ups.

If anyone could enlighten me as to what it is i need, or any other helpful comments, i would be greatful.

Now, what brand of p'ups are best for the money? and how much difference would there be between brands of pickups with this pre-amp? Would there be a dramatic difference in sound?
