I'm looking at Modulus Q5 with the following custom pickup option: dual Bart soapbars with passive only electronics (volume, volume, master tone).

I've never heard (or even seen) Barts without a preamp however I much prefer passive electronics and would rather leave the tone shaping to an external preamp. In view of that, any opinions on the above configuration? How do Bart soapbars compare with other passive pickups with regards to output, etc.?

    thanks in advance

Barts should work fine in passive mode.

my bass has bart quad coil p4cx, when i turn off the pre-amp it still sounds great. not as much headroom or volume. it depends what kind of sound you're going for. pre-amp off you can get a j or p kinda sound.

Barts run without a preamp aren't that rare. They sound less hyped than most pickups.
