I've just installed some barts in my Carvin XB75. They sound great but I have one problem. The barts are taller than the stock carvin P series pickups and they are very close to the strings ( a little more than 1/8"). Bart's website says to leave at least 1/4" but I've turned the preamp all the way down and I do plan on bring the bass to a local luthier to rout out the existing pickup slots in the future so I can lower them further. Do you think there is any harm in playing the bass as is right now?

If the sound is clear, no chorusing effect, it should be fine. If there is any distortion you will need to lower them.

I'm using a set of passive Barts in my Std J.

What's the optimum PU height? I've been tinkering with my height settings (currently about 1/8").

IMHO, these new Barts don't sound as sweet as the old Hi-As. I keep thinking I don't have the height dialed in right.
