Does anyone know if the Bart NTBTG will work okay with active EMGs? Has anyone tried this? Will this pre run at 18 volts?

Come on guys, help me out here. Will this work?

  3. With EMGs being active and having the preamp built into the pickup, there may be issues. I would check with EMG as they are generally pretty good about answering e-mails. Forget trying Bartolini. Their online customers service is a joke.

according to the bartolini website here , the ntbtg preamp runs at 9v only. As to whether you'd fry it at 18v, I don't know.
There's no reason why you can't use emg's with an additional preamp, I did this with EMG's and a U-Retro in my warwick thumb. There should be no problem with a bart preamp, although with only 9v you probably won't have as much headroom as you would at 18v.

Also, you don't say whether this is an upgrade install or new bass install. If it's an upgrade, and you currently have passive pups you should look into replacing your current vol/blend pots with pots of a more appropriate impedance for active pups (100k vs 250/500K). EMG usually supply these with their pickup sets.

I don't know if I would call this an upgrade or not. I am changing out the stock EMG BTC in a Modulus Q5. As it has been stated here by several others, the sound of the EMGs and EMG pre just doesn't do it for me.
