I am thinking of putting some passive Bartolini PUs in my Jaguar 4 string. It has the P and J configuration and came with the "Duncan Designed" PUs. I would love to hear your opinions on the Bartolini's and the bass.

Pickups are a personal thing. Some will praise, others will criticize anything you put in there, including the pickups it came with. I understand why people ask for advice on pickups but I question the value of any advice you get. Unfortunately only your ears can make the call and since you are unlikely to find a VM Jag with the pickups you want to try so that you can listen to them, you may just have to try them for yourself. That's great news for pickup manufacturers, isn't it? :D

Although I do not have one I have tried a VM Jag in a store and I liked it well enough. They seem to have devoted following here on TB so I think that in the long run they are as satisfying as they seem in a brief store trial. I may eventually get a P/J so I retain an interest in them. For whatever it is worth I would prefer a P/J with the P in the "correct" position and the Jags have it slightly neckward of there so I might opt for the MIM P-Bass Special model instead. But that's me, if you are happy with your bass rest assured that Squiers are good and so are VM Jags.

I actually have 9 basses and most are higher-end Fenders. The VM Jag was the first low-end bass I ever purchased but it looks so good and played so well, I had to have it. I usually don't mess with changing anything on my basses, but ths one was so cheap I thought I'd throw in someBartolini's and see what it sounds like. Thanks for your comments.
