I am repairing a 70's jazz bass (well, a copy of one). The ground wire isn't long off to reach the connection (on the pot). I will need to splice it.

    (a) What kind of wire should I use? What guage? Does it need to be shielded?

    (b) What's the best way to splice this? Solder the end of the new wire on to the ground wire?

    Thanks!

  2. Why not use the same gauge and type as the bass has now?

The best way to splice it is to thread on a piece of heat shrink tubing then twist the wires together so they stay in a straight line then solder them and seal the shrink tubing over the junction.
