Beautiful! If 19mm is the issue, you should be able to buy a HipShot 18mm bridge and swap it with the 19mm. Call Sadowsky and verify, but I have a custom Sadowsky on order with 18mm and they said I could easily swap it with 19mm if I can’t get used to 18mm...the bridge holes for the screws should be the same.
I thought about doing that, but I am looking to move back to all 4 strings. Definitely a good suggestion though thank you!
The Sadowsky soapbar pickups are the greatest pickups ever made IMHO. And paired with the best preamp. Great bass, GLWTS.
Agreed, 100% - most of my Sadoswky's are 19 because thats my preference, but I have 2 with 18mm bridges and you should be able to easily interchange them - same screw patterns and all. Rob
Totally agree. I bought a Modern 5 one week ago. Those pickups are absolutely fantastic. I also own a Jazz Sadowsky and I prefer the modern.
My understanding from Sadowsky is that their 18mm/19mm bridges are interchangeable with no mods required to the body. I’d contact Sadowsky for specifics.
Re: Direct Replacement Sadwosky 18mm bridge. It's Hipshot made and the holes do line up for DYI retrofit on both NYC and Metro(Line) basses. No sense in bugging Josh at Hipshot as he will just refer you back to Sadowsky customer service for purchase of $160.00 shipped. After being told by both Carmine and Peter (who are no longer in the department) that the 18mm bridge was for NYC basses only, I went ahead and purchased it anyway for direct replacement of the 19mm bridge on my MetroLine MV5. When received, the 18mm replacement bridge required no drilling and no hole filling. Made all the difference for me!
Well well well.... That's great news . Thanks a lot for your feedback. Did you replace with an A or a B style bridge?
The design is Sadowsky brand which just happens to be manufactured by Hipshot. It is neither A style nor B style. It's a Sadowsky labeled modern stock 18mm. Alternatively, if you want to save some money you can pick up an 18mm Gotoh quick release bridge #J510SJ-5 for about $50.00. This Gotoh version requires drilling and is identical to the Sadowsky bridges found on their earlier model basses. This is what I found out on the internet and by speaking with both Roger and his manufacturer Hipshot.
Sorry but I might have missed something in you answer. If I want to change my Sadowsky bridge, can I choose a Hipshot bridge as direct replacement? If yes, should it be a A style or B style?
You would contact Sadowsky to order their 18mm retrofit version. With the Hipshot brand A or B style you would have to experiment.
