bass body

Discussion in 'Hardware, Setup & Repair [BG]' started by tyburn, Feb 27, 2001.

  1. i'm planning on building a p bass from scratch, i'm gonna use a standard p bass neck made of maple with an alder body,, the question i have is what cort of finish colour would look good, bear in mind that it have a pickguard, what does anybody have thats looks cool

i was think about either getting a close grain alder body and lightly spraying it so the grain showed through, then numerous coats of laquer, but what colour
or staing the body and then coating it with laquer

does anybody ahve any recommendations or tips they've found when doing it ,, i've had some experience witha spray gun,, but my dads pretty good with it ( spraying motorbikes and a tractor he has???

  2. Usually alder is painted a solid color and ash is sprayed with a clear color. The ash might weigh a little more and be a little brighter the alder could weigh less and is slightly less bright in sound. The ash can be finished with tung oil finishes for a natural look.
