Hey guys , So I Just wapped the old Stingray out for a practise today and couldnt help notice that the inside of my case smells like ............ MILK !?!?!?!?! Nothing has been spilled or sprayed on the bass or case ? Certainly no milk ? What could this be ? and whats the best way of getting rid of it ? Thanks
Throw some cookies in there for a few days and it will smell like Milk and Cookies (better than Milk).
lol God NO, I nearly threw up on my bass when i got a smell of it. Is it safe putting stuff like Febreeze on it, after all my bass will be in there too ?
Line up the kids and start asking!Whenever I would play with this one guy he would always put whatever he had left after eating in my gig bag.
off milk? D: I hope for your sake it isnt. I got a cheapy case on ebay last year and it stank of plastic wrapping stuff. Took a full week of febreeze + lying open outside, in the fresh air to completely rid the smell. :/
keep ur bass on a stand for a week(or however long it takes) and just spray the s**t outta it with febreeze(oust or stronger stuff if needed ) if it actually smells like MILK not just mildew or ROT it must have been the previous owner or if u bought new do u live on the coast? my friend had a fender j in a really old case in his garage at his beach house in florida...came back 2 weeks later and the thing was completely rotting :S
Thats the wierd thing, its always been mine, this smeel has just came suddenly. Can I stress my bass doesnt smell, its the plush stuff in the case. So let it air outside and febreeze it eh ?
Uh oh. It may be new case time. I had a friend who had his Fender guitar case start stinking, for no apparent reason, and no matter what he tried it continued to smell bad until he threw it out and just bought another case. Someone hypothesized that, since nothing was spilled or stored in the case that may have caused it, that something happened (temperature, humidity, etc.) to cause some kind of mold to grow within or under the plush stuff or else perhaps the material itself, or the glue (or something) was breaking down due to age and that was releasing an odor. Hmm... if it takes going this far, maybe you could pull out all of the lining and have the case re-lined. Whatever it is, I hope you resolve the problem without having to ditch the case.
That was my first guess. It's probably mold or mildew growing underneath the plush. If it's been in a pretty humid environment that can happen.
I bought a bass a few years back, the case has a terrible smell. I used whole (not ground) coffee beans - took the smeel out, and had a pleasant coffee odor. Coffee beans are great at absorbing odors ...
