There are many mistakes in some of the fakebooks. They are just a compilation of transcriptions done by various people. Sometimes the one that did the transcription would write which artist/album they were working from. Others, I have no idea. But some tunes are in different keys than what the tune is usually played.

Why you want a bass clef fake book?

Okay the Real Book it has never been consider accurate especially the originals like mine. Lots of wrong chords and other issues that why there have been six editions and many variations. The Hal Leonard ones are legal fake books and they have removed songs, cleaned up others, but people will always debate what the "real" changes are because people play and re-harmonize these tunes. Over in the DB forum there is a thread on the right changes to All of Me and how old is that song?

Part of learning to be a Jazz player is learning the tunes and the common variations and keys they get played in. You will work with pianists and guitar players that after the head start changing up the chords all over and you need to hear it. Best just to look at fake books as rough lead sheets or someones head chart.

All that said many are using the Sher Music fake books these days because they are far more accurate and have newer tunes.

Like Jeffbonny said don't buy fake books in bass clef, learn to read treble clef you will need it anyway. Bass clef make it hard to share on a gig also you might have to read from someone else's treble clef book or xerox pages handed to you.
