Help!! Just a wife trying to figure out what to get her bass playing husband. My husband is an avid bass player who is into researching, purchasing, reviewing, everything bass related from guitars, amps, strings, pedals, sound systems, etc. His birthday is approaching and I am at a loss as to what to get him. He talks about wanting bass related items, but then just purchases them. This makes it hard for me to figure out what to get him that will be something he will really enjoy and use. I would love some recommendations as to what to get him that he will be thrilled about. I really want to surprise him and need your help! Some of the current items he is has - Lakland (skyline series) bass - Genzler Magellan 800 - Genz-Benz Streamliner 900 - Genz-Benz NX2 Series *He also like Devon basses* (Purchasing a bass guitar is not an option, he has too many particular wants/needs when it comes to that, so I am needing other ideas/options). Thank you for your help, it’s greatly appreciated!
I love that idea, but He does have 64Audio custom molded in ear monitors and Linsoul KZ AS16 8BA headphones as well.
Allegedly, they're as accurate as many/most pedals. I can't say for sure, as I've never used a pedal for tuning. The reference A is adjustable between 435 - 445 Hz, and the strobe accuracy specs say 0.02 cents. I can say it's the best clip-on tuner I've ever used...
Personally, I'd be thrilled if my wife got me a Sweetwater gift card. Then I could go buy something fun.
Why not take him out for a nice dinner (or in, depending on Covid where you are), and tell him he can spend up to X on a BRO (bass related object), as long as he tells you what he wants, so you can "approve" and purchase it for him?
Does he/will he gig much? https://www.amazon.com/Rock-N-Roller-R2RT-Multi-Cart-Platform-Telescoping/dp/B003AYLP9S
One year I ordered some new strings before Christmas, on Christmas morning the last gift I opened was a set of TI Jazz Flats. How did she know what I wanted? Simple, she just intercepted my mal. P
If your husband does guitar setup work himself, he might be glad to get some kind of maintenance toolkit. {} {}
I would suggest the Darkglass Hyper Luminal Compressor pedal. Every serious bassist needs a solid compressor, and this one is off the charts as far as quality and adjustability. It comes with 3 separate compressors, a usb for fine tuning, and lots of other tweaking capabilities. I've never heard a bad word about it!!
Genzler just released a foot switch to engage the drive channel for the Magellan 800 amp. That might be a nice thing he'd like: Magellan 800 Footswitch - Genzler Amplification
A nice wide strap if he doesn't already have one. Bass peg winder(speeds up restringing). Stand, case, gig bag. Clip on tuners are fine but for me they're hard to see at outside daytime gigs, so I use my pedal tuner then. Gift cards are great, too.....
{} Best tuner period PS It’s wonderful to see such a thoughtful and clever search for the right gift. Your husband obviously married well!
+1 for the Sweetwater gift card. As great as your intentions are, researching, buying, exchanging, and returning music equipment is a journey. Half the time we are buying something that we don't know if we will like until we can actually play it ourselves. If you buy him something expensive, it's very possible it won't be the exact thing he wants, or he won't like it, but also won't return it because he feels guilty because it's from you... You might look more towards the 'gift' variety instead of gambling on equipment. Then again, maybe you nail it and he's super happy with it. Speaking from experience, my wife knows not to buy my anything work or hobby equipment related because the chance of her getting it right is slim. btw, I'm really surprised that you're able to post on here without your husband finding out, assuming he's a talk bass member.
God bless you! +1 on the gift card idea that has been mentioned (where he usually shops). Assuming he is in a band(s), have you tried reaching out to band members and see if your husband has been talking about anything he wishes he could acquire?
