Okay, I was wondering if I plug my bass into a guitar amp (tube 18 watts) and then plug the direct out into my bass amp, would the bass amp preserve the lows of the bass and protect the guitar amp's speakers? I want to use the guitar amp for a song idea I have. Is this possible? I know that it won't necessarily sound good.

Nope. The guitar amp is still getting all the bass' signal, including the low end that's prone to destroying the speaker. A better choice would be to do something to limit the lows getting to the guitar amp. Perhaps a simple graphic EQ with everything below about 150 Hz cut out. Split the signal before the EQ, send the straight signal to the bass amp, and the EQ'd signal to the guitar amp.
