I don't know what I should get, a bass guitar or an electric guitar? My whole family tells me to get an electric guitar but I want to keep the bass guitar that I have now. What should I do?
  2. Stick with bass. There are too many guitarists, anyway.

You could probably get much more work as a bassist. But, get what you enjoy, you are the one thats gonna be playing it, possibly for the rest of your life.

Play both. It will only help you as a musician.

What's the reason they want you to play guitar?

Surely you'll get much more experience by playing both, but if you have to chose pick the bass.

Frankly, Bubba, what do you think the answer can be in TalkBASS forum ? Guitar ? C'mon, be serious. I'm sure that if you asked that in here, it's because you KNOW the answer, deep down your bassy soul :D
    Stick to bass, man !
(it doesn't stop you from playing guitar also).

Hide your bass in closet, sell your amp for a cheapo geetar and a headphoneamp. Live a double life: g***r at days for your parents, bass at night for yourself! Plus, tune your geetar as a sixstring bass and play bassparts with it. Study couple chords and some easy heavy songs in case you'd ever have to show em to your parents or someone else.
