I was looking to buy this bass as a present for my kid brother. Was told it was an 86’ MIJ Precision Bass. The headstock has “Made in Japan” under the words Precision Bass, and there is a serial starting with E8 under the gold Fender logo. With the neck removed, there is a PB-557 stamped at its underside. The question though, is the body. It has a red serial stamped with 7 digits. I was hoping someone could help me identify its origins. Thx much, in advance, for any and all assistance.

From what I’ve seen, it looks like the bass really is what it was marketed as. The neck at least is a genuine 1984-87 FujiGen Gakki neck. I’ve included a link to Fender’s ID site below. See what you can find there.

At the very least, I see no reason (to my uneducated eyes) to assume that the body and neck don’t match. Hope this helps.

How can I find out when my Japanese-made instrument was manufactured?
