I'm not sure where this belongs, so I'll put it here, too. A colleague is spending a lot of time in France, and needs a bass to keep there to practice on. A good plywood or hybrid would be suitable. Any suggestions?

I'm not clear. Does he want to buy it over there, or bring one from here?

It's been 10 years since I visited bass shops in Paris. You just didn't see plywoods. Of course, the Chinese have made huge inroads everywhere. I'll see if I can contact Olivier, an old TB poster in France.

  6. I think that it's easy now to find plywoods, hybrids Chinese bass in Paris, there's a lot of shops rue de Rome, you can buy a good hybrid chinese bass for 3000-4000$ (Bruno Brette, a french luthier sell some of these double basses). -I play myself on an hybrid-
    Hope it could help you
